Fred M. Novice, MD expertly administers the full range of the latest and best cosmetic fillers with his customized, advanced techniques to achieve the look you want, always natural and never overdone.

Perlane® is an FDA-approved filler made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the connective tissue of your skin. Perlane® is used deep beneath the dermis, working from the inside out to restore volume and give the face a more youthful appearance. Perlane® is closely related to Restylane®.

Losing fatty tissue in your face is a normal part of aging, and the impact of significant weight loss, gravity, and over-exposure to the sun are readily apparent over the years. Each face ages in its own unique way, but gauntness, wrinkling, and vertical folds and lines on both sides of the mouth are common. The rounded fat pads in the cheeks – a hallmark of the youthful face also thin and migrate downward as we get older, giving the face a tired or worn look.

Dr. Novice has offered Perlane® for over 20 years in the Metro-Detroit and Windsor area.

Perlane FAQ

  • Candidates for Perlane® Treatment:

Perlane® is used for treating moderate facial wrinkles and folds and to restore lost facial volume. The nasolabial folds are the most common area of treatment with Perlane® but it is also routinely used for restoring volume to the jaw line, cheekbones and mid-face. Dr. Novice is a very experienced injector of Perlane® and many of the areas he fills with this product are considered “off label” uses.

  • How does Perlane® work?

Perlane® is injected into the skin with an ultra fine needle. It plumps the skin to smooth wrinkles and folds. Perlane® attracts and binds water molecules to help maintain facial volume. Perlane® is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the body. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane® is a crystal clear gel, chemically cross-linked (the long chemical strands are tied together) to delay breakdown by skin enzymes. Perlane® is non-animal-based and free from animal protein. This quality prevents disease transmission. Allergy testing prior to use is not necessary.

  • What to Expect During the Procedure

The doctor will decide the best placement for Perlane® after carefully evaluating the unique way your face is aging. Areas to be treated are numbed with a topical anesthetic to make the procedure comfortable; Perlane® is then injected with a very fine needle to correct the contour irregularities present in your skin.

Results of Perlane® may last 6-12months or longer depending on the individual and the site injected. You will need touch-ups and repeat treatments over the years to maintain the volume and wrinkle correction you desire.

  • What are the Risks?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are effective and have proven to be very safe when administered in a medical setting by a qualified and trained injector. Perlane® offers another advantage in that you don’t need to be pre-tested with the product. We will learn about your medical history and ask you some important health questions .

Side effects from Perlane® are usually minor and temporary. You may have some bruising, redness or swelling at the treatment sites for a few days. It’s not unusual for uneven swelling to occur temporarily, with one side more prominent than the other. Typically, this lasts for a couple of days before it resolves by itself or you can return to the office for a “touch up” to achieve any correction needed.
