Palomar® FAQ

  • How does it work?

The Icon MaxG light based treatment targets pigmented and vascular lesions, redness, and damaged skin cells without harming surrounding tissues.  It safely delivers low-energy light directly into the affected skin.  For red vascular lesions, including spider veins, broken capillaries, and rosacea, light energy emitted by the Icon MaxG is selectively absorbed by the blood, destroying the blood vessel.  It gradually disappears, and the skin’s even tone is restored.

  • What to expect?

Patients generally report that the MaxG treatments involve little discomfort and are of short duration.  We do use topical numbing cream prior to treatment to make our patients feel more comfortable during the procedure.

Icon MaxG treatments can be followed up with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as Botox (R), and filler injections.  Dr. Novice and his team can recommend additional services that may benefit you during a full skin consultation.

  • What kind of recovery time?

Little to no downtime is necessary following an IPL treatment with the Icon MaxG system.  Some patients have redness when they leave our office, but it diminishes by the end of the day.  Brown spots may need to be covered with makeup for about a week after treatment.

  • How many treatments will I need?

We customize each treatment plan to meet the needs of our individual patients.  Most brown spots require 2 or 3 treatments before they fade completely.  Many patients with uneven or spotty pigmentation or broken capillaries need only a single treatment.  Rosacea may require ongoing treatment to maintain maximal improvement.  Patients with fair skin often need fewer treatments.
