Fred M. Novice, MD is the premiere location for your Botox® Cosmetic needs. Botox® is a popular non-invasive injection that effectively reduces frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. Botox® blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

Dr. Novice has offered Botox® treatments for over 25 years in the Metro-Detroit and Windsor area. His extensive experience and expertise produces soft natural results for his patients.

Following treatment, it will take approximately 2-10 days to notice the full effect of the neuromodulator. Botox® is not permanent, but the results will last approximately three to four months on average sometimes considerably longer. Often over time, treatments are needed less frequently as muscles are retrained by the repeated injections. Dr. Novice routinely offers a “touch up” usually between 2-8 weeks at no additional charge.

Botox FAQ

  • How does Botox® work?

Botox® blocks impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles that cause the unwanted wrinkles on your face. Botox® relaxes the muscles so you look more rested and youthful.

  • What is the treatment like?

Treatment with Botox® is a simple and safe procedure. A very small amount of Botox® is injected very precisely into several muscles that cause the wrinkles on your face. Many patients compare the sensation to a little sting. Sometimes a topical anesthetic cream is applied prior to the injections resulting in virtually no pain whatsoever. No sedation is required and you can resume normal activities immediately. You can even drive yourself home or back to the office. Some patients may experience a slight temporary bruising at the injection site which can be easily covered with make-up.

  • Are Botox® treatments safe?

Botox® injections have been administered with great safety and efficacy for over 30 years. We feel that choosing a reputable experienced dermatologist is a key component to achieving safe and excellent results. Each year millions of patients worldwide receive Botox® treatments and it is now the most popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of aging.

  • Does Botox® remove wrinkles?

Depending on the severity of the wrinkle, with time, furrows and wrinkles can be diminished or completely erased.

  • Is there any downtime?

No. Occasionally a bruise can occur from the injection. Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment.

  • What are the risks?

Botox® is a remarkably safe procedure. Occasionally, there may be some bruising at the injection site. Less commonly, you may experience temporary side effects including headache, brow or eyelid droop and slight swelling of the injected area.

  • What is expected during the treatment?

Botox® is injected into the target muscles with a very fine needle in the office. The procedure takes only a few minutes, with little or no discomfort. Cold packs may be placed on the area before or after to minimize bruising and swelling.

  • What should I avoid?

Although it is ideal for to avoid drugs which can increase bruising such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin®) and vitamin E capsules for 14 days prior to Botox® injections, many people are treated every day in our office while taking these and other blood thinners with minimal if any increased bruising. Also, it is very important not to discontinue any medication prescribed or recommended by another provider without full consultation with that physician.
